All staff and students have access to the school network while in the United Kingdom through both Microsoft Remote Desktop and Microsoft Office365.

Microsoft Office365 is accessed from https://www.office.com, by using a school email address and network password.

This provides access to: email via Outlook, OneDrive and online Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Microsoft Remote Desktop is accessed from https://rdsh.westhillschool.co.uk/RDWeb/webclient/, by using a school network username and network password.

This delivers a school computer desktop, exactly the same as used in classrooms and provides access to: full Office Applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, all curriculum applications, all relevant shared drives and each user’s home drive.

(If you have a Mac computer, Microsoft Remote Desktop can only be launched by using the Microsoft Desktop app from App Store, which requires at least macOS 10.14 or iOS 15.0.)

School Closure and Remote Access - Due to Extreme Conditions

Over the years, there have been a few occasions when the school has had to close as a result of extreme weather conditions.

Where the school is closed prior to the start of a school day, learning will switch to our home-school blended learning model through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). If school is closed part-way through the school day, students can immediately switch to remote learning on the VLE on their return home. Students are expected to check their emails for information at 8.45am and 3pm each day and, using their timetable, follow their lessons on the VLE.

The VLE and Remote Desktop can be accessed by following the instructions above.
