ASFC XL Theology Conference
On Friday 17th November 2023, a group of Year 10 students took part in a student conference held by Ashton 6th Form College’s, XL Academy.
Aimed at inspiring the curious minds of our most able learners, students took part in sessions across key areas of the Arts – History, Sociology, Law and Philosophy, Ethics and Religion. The Theology theme of the day allowed students to consider the role religion plays in society and to discuss some fundamental issues – How has religion been used to control societies? Is religion declining in the UK? Did God create humans or did humans create God? What’s the difference between morals and laws?
Students were encouraged to become open-minded young thinkers, skills much needed in modern society.
A keynote speaker from The University of Leeds gave students an insight into what a university lecture would be like.
College staff explained pathways to higher education and the support available within the college to enable them to Aim High.
