It starts as a joke... Then suddenly, it's serious. Cold water. Hidden dangers. No second chances. If it feels off it is. Say something. Stop it. Be a mate. If someone's in trouble: Phone. Float. Throw. Don't jump in. Knowing what to do could save a mate's life. Share this advice from @rlssuk and spread the word. Stay safe this summer

It's the final Headteacher's Recognition Reward of this year! Joining Ms Cronin today, together with Miss Mason, were our school Masterchef entrants who finished in the top 3 of the competition last week. A marvellous effort from all who entered and executed their plan to be WH Masterchef 2026! Well done, boys! Huge congratulations were also given to our boys who've been trying their best right up until the end of the school year and made it to the top of their year group this week, as well as to every other student who has also been continuing to try their best all year, but didn't reach such dizzy heights Every achievement throughout the year is an achievement! Open to all, every week, we go again in September

On Monday, a small group of Year 9s, together with Dr Sarfraz, took a trip to Oldham to experience a 'Great Horizons' event with the amazing Professor Brian Cox! Discussing all things astrophysics and STEM - including black holes and the expansion of the universe - our boys gained knowledge from the world-renowned local lad . A real treat was in store when they were given the opportunity to put a question to him too, which they did in an impressively scientific and West Hill Way. Representing us to the highest of standards, our boys were offered the chance to see something a little different, and took it

Friday 10th July 2026 - earlier closure. Due to the hot weather and high humidity, we open as usual in the morning but have a planned earlier-afternoon school closure tomorrow. Please see your emails and the WHS app for more details, including exact timings. School will be open as usual on Monday 13th July 2026. Please stay safe. Apply suncream, cover up, drink plenty of water and stay well away from open waters. Don't be tempted to get in the cold waters, they present a real danger to life.

Today, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming serial entrepreneur Steve Greenwood to speak with some of our business students. Steve shared a powerful reminder that careers don't always go to plan, but with perseverance, incredible things are possibledrawing from his own journey of rising through the ranks to lead a business through a successful flotation . The highlight? Steve took our students' business concepts and built a live website based on their ideas right in the classroom! Together, they broke down the real-world risks and rewards of startups, giving the boys invaluable, first-hand insight into the true entrepreneurial mindset. A massive thank you to Steve for his time, generosity, and mentorship today!

Our library book-loaning competition figures are ever-changing! We're close to the end now, and will be rewarding the top forms in each year group for this last half term, as well as awarding one prize for the overall winner in the whole school . Can you help your form group reach the top spot? As it stands, there are 3 form groups in the title race with only 36 books loaned separating them! The factual bit - Reading over the summer holidays prevents the academic "summer slide", where children can lose up to two months of reading performance. It builds vocabulary and fluency, boosts mental wellbeing and helps students naturally transition into the next school year. Come and get your book/s for summer reading!

Rewards assemblies are running all of this week, and yesterday was the turn of Year 8 Amongst many rewards issued and many achievements celebrated, students received awards in music and for being a 'Library Legend'. Our musically gifted students were nominated due to their excellent musicianship and progress on their instruments, as well as for their commitment and dedication to our musical ensembles and performances this year. Our 'Library Legends' earned their title by following our 3Rs in the library setting - for always being 'Ready' by having a private reader with them, for their constant 'Respectful' use of the school library and for 'Responsibly' returning their books on time, consequently, being an avid reader with the most loans in their year group this year! A huge well done to all of our boys for all of their achievements

Year 10 College Taster Day Our Year 10 students spent an informative and inspiring day at a local college last week, giving them the opportunity to explore the exciting pathways available after school and helping them make informed decisions about their next steps. From traditional classroom-based learning to practical skills training, the taster day helped students gain a real insight into college life and the many options open to them after Year 11. A huge thank you to the college staff at @ashtonsixthformcollege, @tamesidecollege and @clarendonsixth for providing such a valuable and enjoyable day for our students!
