Key Stage 3 Technology

Curriculum Aims

  • The KS3 Technology curriculum (DT and Electronics) aims to encourage every student to develop technical knowledge and a high level of skills in designing, making and evaluating, through a variety of creative and practical experiences. We intend for every boy to learn about the designed and made world, and how things work, and learn to design and make functional products for particular purposes and users;
  • Throughout Key Stage 3 in Food Preparation and nutrition, every student is encouraged to use their creativity and opinions in their practical work. The majority of Food, Preparation and Nutrition lessons contain practical elements as students are assessed on their ability to prepare and cook a range of foods safely and hygienically. Every student will cook sweet and savoury dishes to equip them with the skills required to eat a healthy and balanced diet after leaving school;
  • We aim to motivate and inspire every boy through a Technology curriculum that engages and challenges all learners, by encouraging them to become resourceful, innovative, resourceful and capable citizens;
  • The skills learnt in Technology will connect with learning across the curriculum: knowledge about the properties of materials in Science, the practice of measuring accurately in Maths, designing using computer software and graphics skills.
