Investment in our sport facilities
Physical Education has always been an important aspect of West Hill School. We have enjoyed sporting success at local, county and International level in many sports, with at times, very limited facilities. And whilst our sports facilities have been upgraded in recent years we are excited to announce the the final piece of the jigsaw. The opening of our much anticipated 3G pitch.
Our Head of PE, Mr Battarbee, said “An all- weather pitch is definitely something the school has been missing! This excellent facility will enable our boys to participate in many more sporting opportunities. Periods of wet weather mean our playing fields often become difficult to use, and in the past, this had led to cancelled practices and lessons being curtailed!” He added;
“This addition is a fantastic opportunity for ALL boys to participate in some form of physical activity no matter what the weather!”
Having our new 3G pitch gives all year, all weather access to physical activity.
We have already seen hundreds of boys participating and enjoying football and handball on the 3G during lessons, at lunch-times and after school. The need to be physically active is more important than ever, not just for the physical fitness of our boys, but also for their emotional and social well-being. The difference physical activity and team sports can make on individuals can be startling. Just to have an opportunity to run around with friends for a short period every day, can make a huge impact on their development.
A contribution from ex-pupil and Arsenal central defender Rob Holding, has helped fund the facility. Rob was only too aware of the need for such a facility and we thank him for his help.
