Update to arrangements for spring term 2021
8 January 2021
As stated in my previous letter, here is the update regarding the school term arrangements moving forward.
Earlier this week the Government confirmed schools will remain closed to most pupils, but will be open for the children of critical workers and vulnerable children only as detailed in the Government guidance - Critical workers and vulnerable children who can access schools or educational settings - GOV.UK
All other boys will follow their regular timetable by accessing the VLE from home as has been the case this last week. This is to continue until February half term, but may possibly extend beyond that date. Teaching staff have been on site all week, and are developing materials on the VLE to provide even more support. It is vital that boys engage with the learning requirements, completing activities as directed and meeting deadlines for the submission of any tasks. Boys will be receiving feedback from their subject teachers, via a variety of forms that could include email, VLE forums and a roll out of Teams meetings.
In addition and to monitor pastoral issues, we will be initiating regular individual 1:1 video calls for boys with their Form Tutor. It is compulsory that your son attends this online meeting each week. Your son’s Form Tutor will be discussing his engagement and guiding him on remote learning expectations. The parent consultation system is the medium by which these calls are being delivered. All boys will be emailed details of a weekly scheduled session. Please check your own email account for details of your son’s appointment.
You will also have heard of the decision to cancel the formal examinations for our Y11. We do not know the details yet, but the grades awarded will be built around teacher assessments. It is therefore vital that our Y11 boys ensure they are working as hard as they can whilst at home, and then on their return into school. Teachers will not be able to enter into any dialogue on what actual grades will be submitted for individual boys.
We were able to have a very successful Y7 Parents’ Consultation yesterday and, moving forward, we will be endeavouring to maintain as many of our regular activities as we can.
As I have stated previously, our plans are based on the information available to us at any time, and are subject to change, often at very short notice. We will aim to share any developments, when confirmed, with yourselves via our various platforms. I again thank you for your continued support during this time.
