The purpose of the Governing Body is to help the school provide the best possible education for its pupils.

They do this by:

  • Setting the schools values, vision and strategic aims, agreeing plans and policies, and making creative use of resources
  • Monitoring and evaluating performance, acting as a critical friend to the headteacher to support and challenge them in managing the school
  • Ensuring that the school is accountable to the pupil and parents is served, to its local community, to those who fund and maintain it, as well as to the staff it employs.

Membership of the Board of Trustees 

West Hill is a thriving school that succeeds in combining high quality academic education with an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom. The school has a long standing reputation within the community, and our community links continue to develop and strengthen as a result of ongoing work across the school and of the extensive community use of our facilities. 

We value every individual and are committed to preparing young people for life beyond school encouraging independence of thought, respect for others, creativity and a will to succeed. 

The Board of Trustees consists of Academy and Parent Trustees, from diverse backgrounds and has primary responsibility for the education, character and mission of the school and for overseeing its activities, including ensuring solvency and the safeguarding of its assets.  Its effectiveness is, in part, derived from it being properly representative, with a right balance and mix of skills and expertise in its Trustees.

The Board of Trustees meets eight times each academic year and convenes delegated committees as required.
