West Hill School achieved Science Specialism in September 2004. Both the Science and Maths departments are actively involved in the delivery of the specialist college programme.

As part of this programme a range of events takes place within the school and the wider community to promote Science and its place in society.
Within the Specialist Subjects, Science and Maths, opportunities are provided for pupils to broaden their learning. Examples of these include teaching of separate sciences, national science week, national science competitions, Salters Festival of Chemistry, visits to observe science and maths in the workplace, maths challenge days, design wars and college taster days.
