This is the induction process for secondary transition pupils. Before arrival. . .
- The Head will inform the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and the Day to Day Manager.
- The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will inform the Heads of the core subjects, the relevant Head of Year, the Key Stage Co-ordinator, the LSU Manager and, if the pupil is enrolled at KS4, the Curriculum Deputy.
- The Head of Year will assign the pupil to a Tutor Group.
- The Reception Office will contact the former school for the pupil’s records, i.e. paper records, assessment records and Common Transfer Form.
- The parents will be given a data collection sheet to be returned with the boy on his first day and handed to the Data Manager. Day of arrival.
- On arrival for the first day, the new pupil will report to the Admin Office and wait to be met by the LSU Manager. The Data Manager will ask the boy for the completed data collection sheet.
- During the morning of the first day the new pupil will be taken by one of the LSU Manager to meet, The Deputy Head (Pastoral), the appropriate Head of Year and the new Form Tutor.
- He will be provided with a planner by his LSU Manager and shown how to use it.
- The new pupil will be given a tour of the school, if this has not already happened. This could be done by The Head Boy, Deputy Head Boy, Senior Prefect or member of staff.
- The remainder of the first day will be spent in the LSU undertaking tests, at the appropriate level, in English, Maths and Science. Copies of these tests will be located in the LSU.
- The tests will be delivered to the relevant Head of Department and marked. The test results will be returned to the LSU Manager with a recommendation of the teaching group in to which he is to be placed. This information will be conveyed to the Head of Year and Key Stage Co-ordinator. The English set will determine the teaching group for History, Geography and Modern Foreign Languages.
- If the pupil is at KS4, he will have an interview with the Curriculum Deputy to determine options and groupings. The timing of the meeting will be organised by the LSU Manager in liaison with the Curriculum Deputy.
- All relevant academic and pastoral information will be sent to the Data Manger who will enter it onto the system and produce a timetable for the new pupil.
- The Key Stage Co-ordinator will assign him to a mentor and inform the member of staff concerned.
- The Form Tutor will be informed of all set and group placements by the Data Manager. Second day:
- The first part of the second day will be spent completing the tests from the previous day.
- On the second morning, the new pupil will be taken by the Learning Support Manager to meet his new subject teachers.
- He will be assigned a ‘buddy’ from the same teaching group – a volunteer – who will show him the way round for a day or so.
- A pack of information which all other pupils will have received up to that point in the school year will be sent to the LSU Manager by the Reprographics Secretary.
- If all the administration of the induction has been completed and the new pupil seems to be coping with the situation, then he will be introduced to classes from period 3.
- Form Tutors and subject teachers should properly introduce the new pupil to the rest of the group. Induction Review:
- Under normal circumstances, a review of his progress will be sent to the parents after 6 weeks. This will take the form of a round robin sent by the Head of Year to all his teachers and Form Tutor.
- If there are specific concerns about the pupil, the review will be done after two weeks and the parents asked to meet with the relevant staff members.
